A SCHOOL enjoyed a special visit from a Team GB Paralympian.

Wheelchair Rugby player Ayaz Bhuta met students and staff at Friars Primary School, Southend.

He spoke to the students and inspired them and shared his story.

PE teacher Dean Reeves, said: "Ayaz gave an assembly to the whole school before spending time with year 4,5 and 6 individually.

"Ayaz showcased some of his skills, got the pupils involved in some of Team GB’s warm up games and discussed how he has managed to overcome the challenges he has faced on his journey to becoming an elite athlete."

Initially a wheelchair basketball player, Ayaz started playing club rugby in 2009.

At Rio 2016, Ayaz made his Paralympic debut and was a key member of the team. The ParalympicsGB wheelchair rugby team finished in fifth place but can still look back on their campaign with pride.
