A tribute parade for 12 horses that died in a blaze at Elmwood Equestrian Centre a year ago has been described as “amazing”.

The Elmwood Memorial Ride, which took place in Burnham to mark the anniversary of the tragedy, saw 52 horses follow a nine and a half mile trail through the town.

Co-organiser Ciera Battson, 19, said it was amazing.

“The people were really great,” she said.

“Some stopped in the road and started taking videos and some came out of their houses to have a look.

“We tried to warn Burnham about the ride so we started putting notices up two months in advance.

“The community really came together for it and it was such a nice thing to see.

“The mayor even came out to meet us.

“We have seen a couple of people mention that this should be a yearly thing.

“We’ll see how it goes with the feedback but I don’t want to make any decisions yet.”

Town mayor Wendy Stamp added: “It was excellent and very well supported.

“While it was a very sad occasion, there was excellent organisation and it was supported not only by the wonderful horse riders but residents along the route.”
