TWO people arrested after volunteer police officers were kicked, headbutted and stamped on have been released on bail.

Special officers were attacked after responding to a disturbance in Colchester High Street at 2.15am on Sunday.

One officer suffered a fractured jaw in the incident and requires surgery.

The other suffered a broken nose and a split lip but was released from hospital within a few hours.

A 20-year-old man from Clacton arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and actual bodily harm has been released on bail until February 7.

A 17-year-old boy from Clacton arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker has been released on bail until the same date.

A 17-year-old boy from Clacton who was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm has been released without charge.

A 19-year-old man from Clacton was arrested last night, on Sunday night on suspicion of affray, in connection with the earlier disturbance in High Street.

He is in custody for questioning.
