A POLICE investigation is underway after a parent alleged teachers assaulted her child at a special school.

The allegations came from a mother, who has asked to remain anonymous.

She claims her son came home with bruises on his neck.

The 13-year-old boy is believed to suffer from a number of behavioural conditions including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and he is also autistic.

He is a pupil at the school, in the Southend borough, and his mother claims several members of staff used unreasonable force to restrain him on Monday.

She has since reported the incident to the police who have confirmed they are investigating.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We received reports on Tuesday, February 12, about an alleged assault which took place the previous day at [the special school].

“We received a complaint from a parent that a boy suffered bruising to his neck and arm. Enquires are ongoing.”

Bosses at the school have confirmed they are aware of the allegations.

A spokesperson said: “We were made aware by the police of an allegation on February 12, but have no details as yet. We will follow all correct responses to enquiries in line with any complaints procedures and due processes and have nothing more to add at this time.”

A Southend council spokesman said: “We are aware of a reported incident which took place at a local school. This is currently subject to further investigation, and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
