A POPULAR street market is set to make its eagerly anticipated return to Braintree town centre.

Council bosses have announced the first event of the year will see more than 40 traders set up stalls throughout High Street, offering a variety of street food options, artisan bakery, gifts, plants, flowers, clothing and more.

The first street market will take place on Saturday, March 30.

The markets will then run on the last Saturday of each month, with extra events lined up for the festive period.

Lovers of the street market will be able to continue to visit their favourite food stalls, with the return of top-quality hot dogs and burgers, homemade pizza, Mexican food, Chinese cuisine, Spanish paella, and mac ‘n’ cheese.

New traders will be joining the market, including a pop-up serving luxury macarons, traditional French crepes with vegan and gluten free options, as well as ethnic gifts from dream catchers, Buddha trees, cover throws to candles and elephant ornaments.

Councillor Tom Cunningham, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, said: “The Braintree street markets are a fantastic day out and a vibrant destination for shopping, eating out, socialising, entertainment and business.

"Since we introduced the iconic street markets last year, we’ve seen them have a very positive impact on the town, with more people visiting and staying longer, increased footfall for local businesses, as well as on the overall atmosphere – all helping to get Braintree back on the map.”

Rob Ely, Chair of Braintree Town Partnership, added: “This is fantastic news coming out from the council, which will significantly help existing businesses and support start-ups, demonstrating even more that it’s a great time to invest in the town."

The council says it street markets have received positive feedback from local businesses, traders and residents.
