THIS week Down Memory Lane looks at photos of Thurrock showing old buildings that are no longer standing.
First we see Tilbury Post Office, thought to be one of the first buildings constructed to meet the needs of the new town of Tilbury in 1880.
Pictures show staff circa 1905, and the building’s classical touches around the door and windows. It was clearly designed to impress.
Next we see Orsett Road in Grays which had not long been a shopping area when this picture was taken in 1910.
Before 1900 it was essentially residential with large Victorian houses.
Finally, we see Rose Cottage, West Thurrock, near the junction of Mill Lane and London Road sadly demolished several years ago. This picture was taken about 1910.
