A former slaughterhouse could be knocked down to make way for new homes.

Applicant Mr R Marfleet is bidding to install four new houses at Trotters Rest, in Sunnyfields Road, High Garrett.

The scheme would see the old slaughterhouse and existing outbuildings at the site demolished before work could begin on the dwellings, which will offer a mix of four and five bedrooms each.

Mr Marfleet will need permission not only to build the homes, but also to change the use of land of the site.

The planning statement accompanying the plans argues the proposals will help to improve the countryside.

It added: “The proposal takes inspiration from traditional forms and materials in its design and is loose in layout to reflect it’s rural context.

“As a result of this there will be a significant improvement to the surrounding countryside which is currently caused considerable harm by the dominance of the existing outbuildings and hardstanding.

“This will be further enhanced through the addition of soft landscaping throughout the scheme.”

Braintree Council will have the final say on the plans.
