A PARISH is urging residents to help a Speedwatch team catch rogue drivers.

Danbury Community Speedwatch has seen the number of volunteers drop to a “critical” level.

The group hopes to recruit more people to the team, with support from Danbury Parish Council.

A council spokesman said: “Vehicles exceeding the speed limit are referred to the police with the aim of educating drivers to reduce their speeds.

“In cases where education is blatantly ignored and evidence of repeat or excessive offences is collated, enforcement and prosecution follow.

“Volunteers are issued high-visibility jackets, roadside signs and are trained to use a radar gun and record the information which is passed on to Essex Police.

“In Danbury, we operate on a number of sites including Little Baddow Road and the A414.”

Speedwatch is run by Essex County Fire and Rescue and the police.

The police are running training sessions in April and May. For more details, call Debbie Hay on 01245 227258 or Graham Chapman on 01245 225111.
