A FITNESS instructor was twice the drink drive limit when she was involved in a head-on car crash.

An autistic boy was left traumatised following the horror smash in Glazebury in January.

Now, Claire Reed has been banned from driving for nearly two years after she was found to be more than two times over the limit during the incident.

The 44-year-old's red Renault Clio collided with a grey Audi Q3 near to the George and Dragon pub on Warrington Road at around 9.30pm on Saturday, January 5.

Reed, a personal trainer who formerly ran classes with Livewire, was seriously injured and taken to Salford Royal Hospital.

Audi driver Kimberley Ratcliffe suffered a broken breastbone in the crash, while her car was written off.

She had been driving her nine-year-old autistic son Jack Jones home to Cadishead after a trip to McDonald's in Leigh.

And the incident continues to have a 'significant effect' on the youngster.

Dad Adam Jones said: "My son has got autism, and his regular routine involves going up to the McDonald’s in Leigh.

"He doesn't speak because of his autism, so a witness rang me from my girlfriend's phone.

"The sense of panic in her voice was so much so that they couldn't even explain to me what was going on.

"Kimberley suffered very severe injuries from her seatbelt, and my son was so freaked out that he couldn't be treated in hospital – he was basically trying to fight me because he didn't want a doctor to go anywhere near him.

"He's been traumatised since the accident, and he's still affected."

Warrington Guardian:

Reed, of Warrington Road in Glazebury, admitted drink driving at Warrington Magistrates Court on Tuesday, May 14, and was disqualified from driving for 22 months.

She was also fined £200 and ordered to pay court costs of £85 plus a victim surcharge of £30.

Adam added: "She's had a total disregard for everything.

"If you do something wrong, you should hold your hands up and say you're really sorry for what happened.

"But there's been none of that, and it's just aggravated everything.
