DADS and grandads are invited to a special day at the railway museum where it’s all about them.

The annual Father’s Day Steam Up is taking place on Sunday with dads being welcomed to the East Anglian Railway Museum for free.

Steam trains will be running all day long for dads and their children to enjoy a ride.

The museum’s famous pump trolley will also be in action.

The new train-themed play area is in the middle of two fields so there will be plenty of room for the children to play while dad enjoys a rest.

There is plenty to explore in the museum, vintage carriages and signal boxes.

The museum is delighted to be hosting the annual gathering of the East Anglian Traction Engine Society this weekend.

As well as starting the road run from here on Saturday, they will have traction engines on display on Father’s Day.

Visitors will also be able to take a peek behind the scenes into the museum’s working Restoration Shed where grand old locomotives are being restored.

The ever popular ‘Taster for a Tenner’ will also be open so dad can have a go at driving a diesel locomotive.

If dad is a fan of puzzles, crosswords, sudoku and solving clues, he will love the museum’s Escape Room challenge in the atmospheric Victorian Waiting Room.

Tickets for the Escape Room and ‘Taster for a Tenner’ must be bought separately to entry tickets.

Tickets are £14 for adults and £5 for children. Children under four years old and dads go free.

The museum’s tiny pub, the Viaduct Tavern, will be open for business serving bottled ales, wine, cider and soft drinks.

There will also be a dad-favourite barbecue on the go and the Chappel Station Café will be serving light lunches, home-made cakes and cream teas.

Alternatively, bring a picnic to eat in the big red bus.

Tickets are available from the East Anglian Railway Museum website www.earm.co.uk/fathers-day-steam.

A 10 per cent discount is available when booking online.
