A SPECIAL steam train journey will take passengers from Chinnor, through part of Oxfordshire and onto the south coast.

The trip on Thursday will be the first of its kind on The Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway in Oxfordshire, since it was joined to the mainline in 2016.

Passengers can board the train at Chinnor station - previously used for the filming of TV series including Miss Marple and Midsomer Murders - and there will be stops in Bicester and Oxford Parkway before it makes its way to Bournemouth and Weymouth.

It will be hauled by steam locomotive B1 Mayflower, which this year made a welcome return to the mainline after a lengthy overhaul.

While tickets cost more than £100, Oxfordshire residents might catch a glimpse of the train as it chugs through the county.

According to Steam Dreams, which runs train tours, it is due to leave Chinnor at 6am, get to Princes Risborough at 6.51am, Bicester Village at 7.21am and reach Oxford Parkway by 7.32am.

On the way back, it should get to Oxford Parkway at 8.39pm, reach Bicester Village at 8.52pm, Princes Risborough at 9.31pm and Chinnor at 10.15pm.
