BURGER King has confirmed it will open its newest Oxfordshire branch on July 4.

The American chain will mark its country’s independence by opening in Didcot’s Orchard Centre on Thursday.

The opening had been previously announced for July 8 but it has been brought forward.

To celebrate, the chain is offering up for 500 free Whoppers during it’s opening week.

Many locals have long wished for a major fast food name to open in the town centre with the nearest currently being McDonald’s at the Milton Interchange.

Burger King has taken a 3,900 sq ft unit in the older part of the centre which was formerly home to the discount retailer Store Twenty One which went bust in 2017.

Selling its token range of whoppers and fries, the Didcot branch is showcasing the brand’s updated design which uses natural materials.

Andrew Berger-North, the director of retail parks for Orchard Centre owners Hammerson, said: “We’re pleased to welcome Burger King to Orchard Centre.

“The signing of an international brand is testament to Didcot’s appeal as a retail and leisure destination and complements our growing mix of local, national and global brands.”

Burger King was first seen advertising for staff in Didcot back in December last year and was still looking for crew members and an assistant manager earlier this week.

Signs for the restaurant were installed earlier this month after being given planning permission back in April.

Robin Bennett, cabinet member for economic development and regeneration at South Oxfordshire District Council, said: “We’re delighted that new businesses large and small continue to be attracted to Didcot town centre – inward investment is vital to our local economy and helps to provide more job opportunities in the town.”

Burger King’s opening follows the recent launches of independent science business Space Store and 24-hour gym Snap Fitness. Eight units at the Orchard Centre are listed as ‘to let’ online.

To claim a free burger, just look out for staff who will be handing out vouchers around town once doors open.

Then, download the BK app, scan the QR code and visit the new restaurant with the voucher and app.
