The latest closure of part of Ipswich Road has begun today.

Four weeks of water main works started in June.

But the road was closed for longer than expected after “technical connection problems” were discovered.

Contractors from Anglian Water were trying to connect and test the newly-diverted water main in the road.

But the firm has not been able to shut down the valves due to their age.

The road reopened in July but Highways bosses said it would close again for two weeks this month. m

A notice from Essex Highways said: "We will be closing Ipswich Road (south) again from 19.08.19 until at the latest 31.08.19 to finish the vital Anglian Water mains pipe diversions.

"The bus stops on Ipswich Road (south) will need to be suspended and the usual temporary stops on East Street and Harwich Road (south) will be used instead.

"The new kerbs being installed along the north side of St Andrew’s Avenue are easy to see and show the size of the new, widened carriageway to come. Similar widening work is clearly underway around the Waitrose store at the junction of Ipswich Rd (north) and the A133."
