PLANS to install a block of flats in Braintree town centre have been refused.
Frank Ladkin's application build six new homes in Manor Street were thrown out by Braintree Council earlier this week due to fears it would lead to overdevelopment.
The proposals would have seen a shop and pair of flats at 76-78 Manor Street demolished first before a three-storey building could be installed.
The complex would have consisted of four one-bedroom flats and a further two, two-bedroom apartments.
However, planning officers have rejected the proposals, stating the development would have been detrimental to the character of the area.
They also said the layout and design of the flats was inadequate and would have resulted in poor amenity for future occupiers.
Mr Ladkin now has a six month period where he can choose to appeal the decision.
