MUSIC-LOVERS enjoyed a collection of brass band favourites in the idyllic surroundings of Castle Park.

Visitors to the popular park on Sunday were treated to a performance from the Essex Police Band as part of Colchester Council’s free bandstand concert series.

The group, which was founded in 1966, has such an impressive reputation it performs at prestigious venues and civic events across the country.

Martin Goss, councillor responsible for waste, transport and environment, said: “These free concerts on the iconic bandstand in Castle Park are a fantastic way for people to relax and enjoy a wide range of musical performances.

“We have had a variety of bands performing over the summer including John Seeley’s Jazz and Saxophone Group, The Colchester Band, and Colne Endeavour.

“These concerts are part of a wide range of activities and initiatives we stage throughout the year to encourage as many people as possible to get outdoors and enjoy all the borough has to offer.

“There are two more performances scheduled to be staged with Sweeting Swing Band taking to the bandstand on September 8 and St Peter’s Band on September 15.

“I would urge as many people as possible to go along and enjoy the music in fantastic surroundings.”
