MERSEA'S Mica Centre will host a night of music and entertainment to raise funds for charity in honour of one of its members.

The centre is hosting a fundraiser for CLIC Sargent, a charity which supports young cancer sufferers, with the support of Jack Goldring, 26, who beat stage three Hodgkin lymphoma.

He underwent a gruelling 12 months of chemotherapy in order to beat the disease.

After getting the all-clear, the fitness fanatic has gone on to run the London Marathon twice for the charity, which supported him throughout his time of need.

Holly Ohmke, assistant manager of the Mica, said: "Jack uses our gym and he has done for a long time.

"Last year he asked us to help him train for the London Marathon.

"We also helped him with his fundraising for the marathon last year and he said he would like to do another event for the charity but he did not know where to start so we offered to host it on his behalf."

Pop rock covers band Better Than Your Boyfriend will be performing and a "man auction" will also take place to raise extra funds.

Ms Ohmke said: "Jack is offering his services as a personal trainer, we have somebody who is a chef who will be going to somebody's home to cook a meal and more.

"We are getting one of our rowing machines down from the gym and Richard Smith will be running a 1,000 metre challenge.

"People will pay to enter and the fastest time at the end will win a prize."

Organisers are hopeful through tickets sales and extras they can raise £2,000 for CLIC Sargent, the UK's largest children's cancer charity.

Ms Ohmke said: "It is a really great charity to support which helps young people battle cancer and Jack is such a great guy.

"Even now the charity is still in touch with him and provides him with support."

Tickets cost £10 each and there are 200 available for sale.

They can be purchased from the centre, in High Street, or online at merseacentre.org.
