TRAFFIC is building in Colchester town centre following an incident.
Station Way, heading towards Asda and North Station, has been closed.
Flood lights have been put up and emergency services are on scene.
There are reports of a crash between two cars.
A passer by said: "It must have happened at about 7pm.
"Police are there and the ambulance service, and the air ambulance has just landed.
"The town centre is gridlocked."
Two fire crews from Colchester attended.
A spokesman for the fire service said: "Crews were called to a road traffic collision involving two vehicles.
"On arrival firefighters reported that one man was trapped in his car and worked to release him by 7.25pm.
"The casualty was left in the care of the Ambulance Service."
