A SCHOOL has paid tribute to a young girl who died from a brain tumour by naming a classroom after her and her passion.

Lizzie Bramall died in November last year, just a few days before her tenth birthday.

She was as diagnosed with a brain tumour last February.

Lizzie had joined Littlegarth Lower Nursery in Colchester in January 2012 and developed a love for drama, music and art.

She was also passionate about baking with her family.

In April last year, Lizzie wrote to her headmaster asking if she could hold a cake sale at Littlegarth’s annual Grandparents Day to raise money for the Brain Tumour Charity.

She and her team of supporters raised more than £4,000 and ‘Lizzie’s Fund’ was born.

She also published a book called ‘Keep Baking’ which is filled with delicious recipes from a variety of celebrities and friends.

School governors decided to create a teaching room in memory of Lizzie and in gratitude for all she contributed to the school.

Her parents, Mark and Sally Bramall, officially opened the classroom called Lizzie’s Kitchen this week.

Students will be taught about food and baking in the classroom.

Headmaster at Littlegarth School Peter Jones said: “I am delighted Lizzie’s parents agreed to open this outstanding new teaching facility which has been dedicated to the memory of our very special Lizzie.

“She has been an inspiration to us all, particularly through the tireless work she did to draw attention to the lack of funding provided for research into childhood brain tumours.

“She spent her life thinking of others and her passion for baking has been infectious.

“Lizzie’s Kitchen will help inspire many others to develop a passion for cooking and will help to ensure the example Lizzie has set through serving others will not be forgotten.”

Lizzie’s Fund has since become one of the top fundraising supporters of the Brain Tumour Charity in the country, having raised more than £200,000 in the past 18 months.

In the autumn term last year she led a sponsored walk in aid of Lizzie’s Fund.

Staff and students repeated the sponsored walk after the opening of Lizzie’s Kitchen.

Lizzie’s funeral took place at The Church of St Peter and St Paul, Little Horkesley, which is where she is buried.

A further memorial service took place at Littlegarth School in January.

During a memorial service at the school in January it was announced the school governors had agreed to dedicate a teaching room to the memory of Lizzie.

The Brain Tumour Charity also paid tribute to Lizzie after she died.
