A VETERAN vocal coach who studied in Colchester has helped a host of celebrities create a charity album.

Mark De Lisser has more than 20 years of experience as a vocal coach.

Mark has worked with some of today’s top vocal talent, including Ariana Grande, Jessie J and Beverley Knight.

He has also worked on numerous high-profile TV programmes, such as BBC’s The Voice UK.

However, he learnt his trade studying at Colchester Institute.

It was there he studied the vocal music course, which lead to him directing and performing with a multitude of ensembles.

He has just helped a number of celebrities create the Got It Covered CD for Children in Need.

The CD is being released on Friday.

A special 90-minute programme showcasing the entire recording process will be broadcast on BBC One ahead of the annual BBC Children in Need Appeal show later this year, featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes action.

Actors on the album, which is made up of covers of well-known songs, include Helena Bonham Carter, Olivia Colman, David Tennant and Jim Broadbent.

Speaking about creating the album, Mark De Lisser said: “Actors can take on characters with ease, but asking them to sing as themselves was an emotional journey for them all.

“There are a few surprise moments in the documentary.

“With such busy lives it was difficult to get these award-winning actors together, but we did it.”

Each track was recorded at the legendary recording studios, Abbey Road and Rak Studios in London.

Mark said: “A highlight for me was recording the group song at Abbey Road. Being in a room with all those greats was unbelievable. We have created a truly world-class album for Children in Need this year. Songs that are timeless.

“This behind-the-scenes look will reveal so much more.

“You will be surprised with these vocal performances. They are all standout tracks.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if some of these actors go on to create albums of their own.

“This album will surely raise lots of money for many good Children in Need causes.”

The album is now available for pre-order on the BBC Children in Need website.

Others featured on the album include Shaun Dooley, Luke Evans, Suranne Jones, Adrian Lester, Himesh Patel and Jodie Whittaker.

Speaking previously about the album Tommy Nagra, director of content at BBC Children in Need, said: “We are thrilled this amazing line-up of acting talent are giving up their time to come together and create something quite unique for this year’s BBC Children in Need appeal.

“Their musical efforts will help make a difference to the thousands of disadvantaged children and young people we support across the UK and leave a lasting impact beyond this TV special. A huge thanks to everyone involved.”
