IN JUST six months a record breaking Meliden teen is on target to count her self among the best archers in Wales.

Following a competition at Corus Deeside Archery Club, Prestatyn high year seven pupil Faith Ward has been offered a place at the Welsh Archery Association's junior academy.

Miss Ward, aged 11, started archery at Gronant Bowmen Archery Club - who are based at the Rhyl Leisure Centre and Ysgol y Castell in Rhuddlan - at the end of February 2019 before entering her first competition in June. At the Deeside competition in September, Miss Ward broke records for both the distance awards for 30metre and 10m in Combined.

Tom Ward, Miss Ward's father said: "Both myself and Faith's mum Lucy are so proud of what she is achieving and how well she is doing.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for her to get coaching and be able to achieve her dream of shooting for Wales in the junior team and, when she is older, shooting in the adult team while gaining the training and experience she would not be able to get at her local club."

Following on from a year's worth of success, Miss Ward also earned first place in the WA Combined Junior Lady at a competition at Rhyl Leisure Centre on Sunday, December 8. She will now travel to Cardiff up to two times a month in the new year.

Mr Ward has set up a crowdfunding campaign to help cover the costs of Miss Ward's travel. To donate, visit the 'A little help needed please' page on gofundme.com.
