An Egremont-based contractor has gone into administration, with the loss of 40 jobs.

Mayson Bros, based at Chapel Street, was established in 1982 but ceased trading this month.

Daryl Warwick and Mike Kienlen, of Armstrong Watson, have been appointed as joint administrators and Mayson Bros' assets are being realised.

Although Mayson Bros' website says it employed 100 people, Armstrong Watson said 40 people have been made redundant.

Mayson Bros worked across the construction sector, offering services in civil engineering, drainage, decorating, plumbing, electrical, aids and adaptations and specialist remedial work.

It has worked on major schemes across Cumbria, including flood resilience schemes in Glenridding and the River Ehen and last year, it worked with MPS Housing (Northern) to re-roof 350 properties for social landlord Home Group.

The company's website lists founder Gary Mayson as managing director. Companies House, which has recorded the administration, lists him as director.

Mayson Bros has been contacted for comment.
