A BUSINESS boss has been forced to send staff home early because disruptive roadworks are killing trade.
Sloan's Tyres, based on Sutton Road, Southend, have had to send staff home as they can no longer afford to pay them.
They claim there are no signs at the nearby roadworks - at the gas works on Sutton Road, which have been up and running for 10 days, telling customers that the business is open as usual.
As a result, the amount of customers through the door at the garage have dried up, meaning there is "no point having excess staff here".
The roadworks are set to last until February 14.
The owner of Sloan's Tyres, Robert Sloan, explained how frustrtated his staff are. He said: "No one is helping us.
"All we're asking for is a sign.
"We've offered to do it ourselves but we've been told we're not allowed.
"I don't want to break the law to put it up but what other options do we have.
"I've had to send staff home because we there is no point them being here. All over a sign."
Southend Council and Cadent were contacted for a statement.
