CORONATION street star Anthony Cotton visited Catterick to receive a £4,000 donation on behalf of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

SSAFA ambassador, Mr Cotton, was presented the cheque at the Infantry Training Centre at Catterick Garrison after troops raised the money through a boxing night.

The popular event saw the British Army up against the German military.

The money raised was thanks to sponsorships from local businesses and it will go towards SSAFA’s Forcesline, a helpline for military personnel, veterans and their families.

Mr Cotton said: “SSAFA and Catterick Garrison are both very close to my heart and I'm so pleased that one has been able to support the other.

"Major Sweeney and I had a chat about any monies raised and where they could go to.

"We both agreed that SSAFA’s help line service, Forcesline, would be a worthy recipient.

"£4,000 is a brilliant amount and will directly support our Armed Forces family in times of need.” James Grant of SSAFA said he was grateful to the Infantry.
