A nightclub in Colchester has decided to say "a temporary goodbye until circumstances improve."

Atik, in High Street, will not open this weekend amid the coronavius pandemic.

In a statement online it said: "After thorough consideration, and statements provided by the government, we feel it’s best to say a temporary goodbye until circumstances improve.

"We are truly saddened by this; however, we pray and hope for everyone in powering through this hard time.

"Our hearts are with all who are vulnerable at this time of crisis.

"You, our people, our community, are one of our biggest strengths and once the situation improves, our collective energy will make us more united not only as a clubbing community, but as a nation, and global community.

"Our teams will be working safely in the background to ensure our venues reopen as tip top, as always, we aim to please.

"We look forward to seeing you all very soon and will be hosting one hell of a Welcome Back Party .. In the meantime, we will be feeding snippets and content on social media to keep you busy.

"Stay safe, pull together, look after each other and look back once this is over with pride, and remember we are One Nation Under A Groove!

"Peace and love and keep washing those hands ;)

If you have purchased tickets or packages for future events, please keep hold of them till we come back to you with our new dates."
