HUNDREDS joined together at a hospital to hail our NHS heroes and teams who are battling coronavirus on the frontline.

Huge cheers, rapturous applause and even tears filled the air as the community joined together to clap for our incredible NHS staff to Southend Hospital.

Across south Essex communities, families and whole streets whooped and bang pots and pans at 8pm on Thursday.

Brentwood Live:

Police officers and firefighters joined the huge show of appreciation at the hospital.

It comes as the country continues to stay home and follow the guidelines from the Government.

Photographer Gaz De Vere captured the emotional scenes at Southend Hospital and said it was an impressive show of support.

He said: “It was a really happy and proud feeling amongst everyone there.

“It was clear that the brief respite from the challenges inside the A&E department and the hospital in general was a welcome one for all the staff.

Brentwood Live:

“The weekly presence outside the hospital is typical of streets all over Southend, where people are on their doorsteps every Thursday evening at 8pm, cheering, clapping, and banging pots and pans, showing gratitude for not only the NHS, but all the emergency services, carers and key workers that are working constantly to keep us safe.”
