ONE more death has been recorded due to coronavirus at the hospital trust which runs Colchester Hospital.

The patient died on Saturday. The latest information brings the total number of deaths at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust to 318.

Figures released by Public Health England yesterday showed a further 59 people who tested positive for the Covid-19 have died in hospitals in England bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 25,750.

Patients who died from the virus were aged between 44 and 98-years-old.

Four of the 59 patients had no known underlying health condition.

The authority has, however, urged caution in the figures as the Covid Patient Notification System did not operate between 4.55am and 3pm.

A spokesman for Public Health England said the system is now operational and the reports of any deaths which were not able to be entered yesterday will be uploaded.

It means there could be a spike in the number of recorded deaths in the forthcoming days.

The national total death toll from the virus now stands at 36,793.
