A BONFIRE set alight to an outbuilding containing several petrol cans during a fire in a village.
Four fire crews from Dovercourt, Colchester and Manningtree were called to Rectory Lane, Ramsey, at around 5.40pm on Sunday.
On arrival, two Dovercourt crews confirmed an outbuilding, measuring six metres by six metres, was alight.
The outbuilding was home to a number of cylinders and petrol cans and crews requested a further two crews from Colchester and Manningtree to help shuttle water from the nearest fire hydrant.
Crews worked quickly and managed to extinguish the fire by 6.14pm.
Station Manager Steve Wintrip said: “Crews worked really hard in windy conditions to extinguish the fire and prevent a further outbuilding catching alight.
“Before setting a bonfire, make sure to check the weather conditions as although this bonfire was set well away from the outbuilding, the wind caused it to spread.”
