A PEDESTRIAN who died in hospital after a collision with a car in Highcliffe earlier this month has been named.
Helen Gilliver, aged 73, of Christchurch, died at Southampton General Hospital on July 10.
Earlier that day, around 10.30am, police had been called to Wharncliffe Road, close to the junction with Lymington Road, following reports of an accident involving a pedestrian and a red Honda Jazz car.
On Wednesday (July 22) at Dorset Coroner's Court, Bournemouth Town Hall, an inquest hearing was opened and adjourned into Mrs Gilliver's death.
During the short hearing coroner Brendan Allen heard from coroner's officer Ken McEwan, who told the court Mrs Gilliver had sustained an "unsurvivable brain injury" in the collision.
Dorset Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
After paramedics and the air ambulance attended the scene, Mrs Gilliver, a retired bank cashier, was transferred to hospital in Southampton where she died.
The cause of death was recorded as traumatic brain injury.
Mr Allen adjourned the inquest hearing for a review on November 2.
In the meantime he said he would be requesting statements from Mrs Gilliver's family, healthcare professionals and the police.
