A woman has died after she was hit by a car.
Police were called to Avon Way in Greenstead around 6pm this evening (Thursday, August 27) following reports a female pedestrian had been hit by a car.
The incident happened near to the junction with Hawthorn Road.
Paramedics were also called to the scene but were unable to save the woman's life.
Avon Way has been closed to traffic and is expected to remain shut for the rest of the evening.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Enquiries are ongoing.
"The road is expected to be shut for some time and we ask that road users avoid the area.
"Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash cam footage is ask to call us on 101."
The reference number is 1005 of 27 August.
