Officers from Stanway’s Roads Policing Unit are keen to speak to two people who reported a suspected drink driver on the A12.

The report was made at 11.45pm last night.

Police stopped a silver BMW 7 Series on the London-bound track of the road, near Sandon, just five minutes later.

The driver, a 46-year-old man from Shenfield, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and he remains in custody for questioning.

A woman initially flagged down police officers in Hatfield Peverel and a man in a light blue Mini pulled over at Sandon.

A police spokesman said: "We’d like to speak to both these key witnesses again and we’d urge them to get in touch.

"We are also keen to speak to any other drivers who may have seen the car driving before it was stopped.

"Anyone with information is asked to report it online to us or to call 101. The incident number to quote is 1438 of Saturday 29 August.

"If you have information but would prefer to remain anonymous you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
