A COMMUNITY charity group has been scattering purple flowers across Colchester to help raise awareness of a serious viral infection and celebrate a special anniversary.
Members from the Rotary Club of Colchester have planted numerous crocuses in Castle Park to mark World Polio Day which takes place on Saturday.
Five primary schools - St John’s Green, St James’s, Iceni Academy, Camulos Academy and Cherry Tree - have also been given crocuses by the Rotary club.
The beautiful flowers will blossom in time for Purple Pinkie Day, which is an initiative held by the organisation to highlight the Rotary Club’s worldwide effort to end Polio.
The event falls on February 23, which also happens to be the day Rotarians celebrate the organisation across the globe.
