A CONFUSED couple who are getting married next week have been “left in the dark” following Boris Johnson’s announcement that the 30-person cap on weddings will be scrapped from June 21.

Calling for more clarity, Rachel Crump, from Billericay, isn’t yet able to get excited for her big day after yesterday’s announcement, which failed to provide an exact guide on the number of guests allowed to attend a ceremony.

Rachel and her partner Alex Woods have been together for 11 years, with the bride-to-be dreaming of the big day since she was a little girl.

Having hoped to get married at The Lawn in Rochford last June, the couple were forced to postpone their wedding until June 25 this year, just four days after the planned lift on restrictions.

It is now understood limits will instead be set by venues based on social distancing requirements.

Rachel, 28, said: “I’ve been waiting so long for this day. I never actually thought he would propose, but he did on my birthday in Crete back in 2019.

“Even while we were on holiday we were looking at venues and ordered brochures. When the pandemic hit it just all came to a halt.

“It’s great the numbers can be lifted, but there wasn’t much detail or clarification about what that means, so we just don’t really know how to feel.”

Left in limbo, Rachel has been checking the news first thing in the morning and last thing at night.

And despite the emotional rollercoaster, the couple are set to continue with their plans to tie the knot next week - not wanting to wait a minute longer to be married.

She added: “I can’t even put into words how important it is to both of us to have all our loved ones there, we’ve had a whole year of not being able to see our families.

“The change could mean we either go ahead with a social distanced capacity of 80 people for our venue, if it’s unlimited and we can have a full 110 then great.

“We just don’t want to wait another year and already have two children George, 7, and Archie, 9 - this will complete us as a family.”
