A flood warning has been issued for the Middle River Roding as a result of persistent rainfall over the last few days.
Flooding to low lying land, roads and riverside gardens is possible, as river levels are expected to remain high.
This is particularly in effect in areas around Loughton, Abridge, Buckhurst Hill and Grange Hill.
The Environment Agency said on its website: "We are closely monitoring the situation, checking rivers for blockages and clearing debris from structures.
"You should avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water and avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses".
An update will be issued later this evening (Wednesday, December 29) or as the situation changes.
Essex isn't the only county that could be affected by flooding in the next couple of days, as the Environment Agency issued 29 in total to various locations around England.
This includes the River Severn in Worcestershire and Gloucestershire, the River Trent in Derbyshire and the River Tove in Northamptonshire.
