A NURSERY’S plans to create a forest school on a patch of grass beside its premises has been thrown out.

Monkey Puzzle Day Nursery, Stanway, wanted to use the grass area on the Villa Road side of the nursery for the school.

Colchester Council has said the fence would “block views” of a green space.

A planning report said the main proposed change to the landscape would have been the installation of an eight foot high fence around the boundary to protect the children.

The plans also sought to build a set of French doors cut into the ground floor of the nursery wall to access this area.

But Colchester Council has refused the plans after reviewing them.

The refusal document said: “The proposed 2.4 metre high fence, by reason of its design, form, length, height and prominence would be out of keeping with and significantly detrimental to the character of the street scene and its surroundings.

“It would also block views of an existing open, green space which includes two trees to the further detriment of the character of the area.”

The council said it meant the plans were contrary to local plan policies.
