CHAOS caused by train strikes during school exam season has seen schools put special measures in place to help pupils whose travel will be disrupted.

Colchester Sixth Form College, which has pupils travel in from south Suffolk and other locations across Essex, has had plans in place for several weeks in anticipation of the disruption.

A spokesman for the college said they had also been working with exam boards to ensure the strikes did not threaten students’ exam prospects.

He said: “Students travel to us from a number of locations across Essex and South Suffolk and it is likely that a number will be affected.

“We have been monitoring the situation for some time and talking to students and staff about any potential disruption.

“We will continue to work with students, our teaching and examination teams, exam boards and others to ensure that students are supported.”

A Colchester Royal Grammar School spokesman said hybrid learning was in place for students who were unable to make it into schools because of the strikes.

He added: “For exam year groups, we have asked students to develop contingency plans.

"This may include staying with friends or relatives closer to school or securing alternative travel arrangements.”
