A NEW bleed kit looks set to be installed in the High Street in response to a “rise in knife incidents”.

Halstead Town Council raised the issue to help with “major injuries”.

A council paper reads: “In view of the rise in knife incidents, it might be responsible to consider buying a bleed kit for the High Street.

“Major injuries can happen in all environments, from car accidents to in-home accidents, workplace machinery to, sadly, weaponised attacks.

“The bleed control kits can handle the most testing of incidents.”

The bleed kit would be fully waterproof and would be locked with a “marine grade combination lock”.

It would also be “highly visible” and has “various mount options”.

The council document continued: “Response times and speed of treatment are paramount to increasing the chances of saving a life in the event of catastrophic blood loss.

“The Turtle Engineering Emergency Bleed Control Cabinet is designed to be easily identifiable and accessible to minimise the time lost looking for equipment and maximise the chance of effective intervention.”

The cost of one cabinet and kit is £425 plus VAT with the town council suggesting it could be paid for using the budget for the environment.

The town council discussed the idea at its latest meeting earlier this week.

Councillor Andy Munday said the town “doesn’t want the need” but it “relates to higher than expected knife crime”.

“If you get stabbed or have an accident, I am in favour of having a bleed kit,” he said.

“When it is known where it can be, the town clerk can decided who best can monitor it.”

The recommendation for the town council to agree to provide a bleed kit for the High Street was unanimously agreed.
