BURGLARS used baseball bats and tied up a pub worker in a burglary at a Brentwood pub.
Two men wearing balaclavas and carrying baseball bats accosted the member of staff at the Golden Fleece in London Road at around 8am on Boxing Day.
They threatened him to get into the property and hit him around the body causing minor injuries.
He was tied up and left and the burglars stole a safe containing several thousand pounds.
An Essex Police spokeswoman said they are believed to have arrived and left in a dark coloured Ford Escort which was parked nearby.
Detectives want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and remembers seeing the car or the two men.
Brentwood CID can be contacted on 0300 333 4444 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
