AN explosion in Ingatestone High Street shocked residents on Friday evening.
Firefighters were initially called to the scene at 8.30pm by a resident who had seen smoke coming from the pavement and had suffered electrical cut outs. One appliance was sent to attend the call.
At 9.49pm the firefighters called for two more appliances after an overhead power transformer exploded.
Two more crews responded and the service used a one hose reel to ensure that the explosion did not start any fires in the surrounding area.
The Electricity Board were called in and once the site had been made safe firefighters left the incident in their hands at 10:40pm.
