Two men have been arrested after police uncovered a haul of Class A drugs inside a bedroom safe.

Officers from the Basildon Tactical Team raided a bedsit in Oldwyk, Vange, on Tuesday after smashing open the front door.

They found two men from Basildon inside two of the bedrooms.

When searching one of the roomS, officers found a safe, which they opened after one of the men revealed the passcode.

Sgt Ben Woollard, from the Pitsea-based team, said: “Most of the drugs were found in a safe in one of the rooms we arrested the men in.

“It was a stand-alone safe which we opened with a code given to us.

“Inside there were eleven wraps of crack cocaine and heroin.

“We also found an empty fake Guinness can which can be used to conceal drugs inside.

“The metal ring on the top of the can unscrews and there was an empty space surrounded by cement and with a plastic tub. It has also been confiscated.

“We have seen these types of cans before, they are often home-made.

“There was nothing else inside the safe.”

The men were taken to Basildon police station for questioning.

Police later confirmed a 54-year-old man from Basildon and a 32-year-old man from Basildon were arrested on suspicion of possessing class A drugs with intent to supply.

They have been released on police bail until March next year pending further inquiries.

Sgt Woollard added: “This is another great arrest for our team. We are committed to keeping drugs off the streets of Basildon.”
