A teenager has died following a crash in Warley last weekend.

A 17-year-old local boy was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries after a black Ford Kuga and a Mercedes collided on Hartswood Road around 2.30pm on Saturday September 19. 

The boy, who was a pedestrian, sadly died of his injuries yesterday.

Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with the crash, but the charges are to be amended - one of them, a 27-year-old man from Billericay, remains in hospital with serious injuries.

A second man, Jack Madel, 28, of no fixed address, has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by driving while disqualified, failing to stop after an accident, and driving without insurance.

Senior Investigating Officer, Inspector Mark Fraser reiterated his thanks to those who helped following the collision and expressed his deepest sympathies to the family of the teenager.

He said: "First and foremost, my thoughts and condolences go to the family and friends of the young man, who very sadly died. 

"I would like to again thank those who assisted at the scene following the collision and for everyone who has come forward to help us with our enquiries.  

"Please can I urge anyone who has information about the incident and is yet to contact us, to please get in contact us either by calling 101 or emailing CollisionAppeal@essex.pnn.police.uk.

Inspector Fraser, added: "We will be working alongside our colleagues at the Crown Prosecution Service to amend the charges accordingly"
