MOURNERS are gathering to pay their respects to a beloved family man who was stabbed to death.

The funeral of dad James Gibbons is being held today at Bentley Crematorium in Pilgrims Hatch, following his death on May 2 this year.

The 34-year-old died from stab wounds after being found in Iris Mews, Laindon at around 9.30pm.

Self-employed plumber Mr Gibbons had celebrated his two-year-old twin daughters’ birthday earlier on the day, his family said.

They described him as an “amazing father”, and the “kind of person who would always be prepared to help anyone less fortunate than himself”.

Speaking before the funeral today, family liaison officer, Det Cons Rachel Slade, said: “Today has been one of the hardest days for James’s Family. Their lives have changed forever.

“What happened on Sunday May 2 was a tragedy and we in Essex Police are working day and night to ensure James’ family are given justice.

“We are in constant touch with James’ mum Wendy and partner Victoria to keep them updated with the investigation but that’s not what today is about.

“Today is about paying respect to a man who would always look out for other people, put others before himself and he would always see the good in people.

“James was a dad of four beautiful children, a loving son, partner, brother and friend and today our thoughts are with all of his family and friends.”

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with Mr Gibbons’ murder.

A 13-year-old boy faces no further action in relation to the offence of murder but has been released under investigation in connection with an assault offence.

More than £38,000 has been raised to support Mr Gibbons’ family from a fundraiser by a group of friends.
