Last week I was driving through Chelmsford. It was just after the light snow we had and so there was salt on the road.

Typically my windscreen washer fluid chose that moment to run out and so all of a sudden my windscreen started to get dirtier and dirtier and there was nothing I could do about it.

Very quickly it became so dirty that I was beginning to have trouble seeing clearly.

As luck would have it I passed a garage that sold windscreen washer fluid so I stopped and filled up and within seconds I could see again. It was wonderful!

Where just a few moments before everything seemed cloudy and grey, now I could see the bright lights of Chelmsford again in all their glory!

C.S. Lewis, the author of The Chronicles of Narnia, wrote, ‘I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I can see it, but by it I see everything else.’

For me, being a Christian is about seeing things differently. Jesus is the lens through which I see God and the world, and through Jesus I see things in a different dimension and with a different clarity.

So make sure you’re prepared for the weather, I doubt we’ve seen the last of this current cold snap, but can I encourage you to also ponder whether there’s a different way of seeing our world – one that will give a different sort of clarity to life.
