A crook has been jailed after he was found in possession of a man's wallet which had recently been taken in a domestic burglary.

Ian Slater, 39, of Connard Square, Chelmsford, admitted one count of dishonestly receiving stolen goods when he appeared at Basildon Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, April 17.

The bench jailed him for eight weeks citing the fact the wallet was stolen during a domestic burglary as an aggravating factor.

The offence was also committed while Slater, who the court heard has a history of dishonest offences, was subject to a community order.

Slater was ordered to pay £115 as a victims' surcharge.
