COLOURFUL rainbows and high spirits were in full flow as the community celebrated LGBT+ pride.

Southend Winter Pride saw the town drenched in colour and love for the event held at St Mark’s Hall, Princes Street, Southend on Saturday February 29.

With a nod to the summer event, there was a pride market, community stalls and live entertainment.

There was also an after party at The Cliff pub in Southend.

The crowds were wowed by TV star and singer Jordan Gray, who was the first ever transgender person to appear on ITV talent show The Voice.

She put on a show at the Cliff pub.

It was an observance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights, changes and celebration, including monumental changes, such as the decriminalisation of homosexuality in the UK in 1967.

Sam Adams, 54, chairman of Southend Pride, said: “It was a brilliant event and we had about 250 people come to St Mark’s Hall.

“We had lots of youngsters and families come along on the day.

“There were a range of stalls from a vintage candy floss seller to a stall to help victims of domestic violence.

“Lots of visitors commented about how warm and welcoming the atmosphere was on the day.

“The after party at The Cliff was amazing too and we’ve raised lots of money for the summer event.”
