WITHAM’S Tom Wraight scored in the first minute to give the home side victory.
He headed home from the first free kick of the game as Witham piled on the pressure.
After the break, Witham were denied a second goal following a number of goalmouth scrambles.
Brentwood came more into the game as the second half progressed, but the home side stood firm to claim the three points.
The victory kept Witham two points behind league leaders VCD with a game in hand.
Brentwood are still not safe from relegation although Wroxham, who were beaten 4-0 on Saturday, will now have to win their last three games to have any chances of finishing above the Blues.
Brentwood went close to an equaliser in the eighth minute when Junior Luke’s through-ball found Courtney White. He clipped his shot past Martyn Guest, but wide of the target, with appeals for a penalty ignored as the keeper collided with White.
Brentwood then had to rely on their goalkeeper Dean Neil to keep them in the game as he made some outstanding saves from Stevens, Wraight and Lewis Godbold.
The next fixture is at home to Soham Town Rangers on Good Friday, kick-off 3pm.
