A KARATE academy enjoyed storming success in European competition thanks to the skills of their very own Super Smash Bros.
The Brentwood trio – nine-year-old Trent Moroney and big brothers Brody, 11 and Cian, 13 – claimed a clutch of medals with the England karate team at the European championship in Germany.
Trained at the Yushikai Karate Academy, in Billericay, the event in Bochum was the first international event for Trent, who won a bronze medal in the Kumite (or sparring) division.
Brother Brody progressed through several rounds in a hotly-contested division before losing to the eventual champion.
Cian showed skill and determination to make it all the way to the final, where he finished runner-up and vice-champion of Europe. He also fought in the Kumite team event where he won all his matches and helped secure the team’s gold medal and European Championship crown.
Dave Paulus, chief instructor at the Yushikai Karate Academy, said: “I’m absolutely over the moon. The boys are a pleasure to teach – ambitious and really enthusiastic.
“We’re all expecting great things from them in the future.”
Any budding karate stars can contact the Yushikai Academy to find out about free trial classes for children aged four and above, as well as for teens and adults.
