SOUTHEND United manager Chris Powell praised the sportsmanship of Accrington Stanley boss John Coleman following Saturday’s clash at Roots Hall.

Accrington were incorrectly awarded a throw in during the first half which led to Coleman walking 20 yards up the touchline to order his team to kick the ball back out of play to ensure the Shrimpers regained possession.

And Powell, who shook Coleman’s hand immediately after the incident, was full of praise for Accrington boss.

“I’ve not seen something like that for a very long time and I commend and congratulate John for what he did,” said Powell.

“I did have to double check what actually happened but after we they got a throw because of a wrong decision he told their player to kick the throw straight out of play so we got the ball back.

“I thought it was great and maybe it’s something we should see more of whenever we see a wrong we’re able to make right during a game.”

Blues triumphed 3-0 against Accrington with Sam Mantom, Simon Cox and Theo Robinson all on target.
