TWO late goals saw Aveley come from behind and secure a 2-2 draw with Great Wakering Rovers.

Goals from Ollie Woodhouse and Brian Moses had put the visitors on course for a valuable three points at Parkside.

But Andy Freeman and substitute Marcus Milner scored late on to allow Aveley to grab a share of the spoils.

The Millers came close to taking a 13th minute lead when Wakering goalkeeper Coey Turipa could only parry Alex Akrofi’s rasping drive and Tony Martin struck the post with the rebound from an acute angle.

Moses, who made his debut in the weekend defeat to Coggeshall Town, sent an effort goalwards but Aveley goalkeeper David Hughes was able to make a comfortable save.

But Hughes was helpless as Woodhouse rose highest to head home an inswinging corner to allow Wakering to take the lead with 23 minutes on the clock.

And Wakering scored a second goal in the space of five minutes as Moses glided through the Millers defence before clinically firing beyond Hughes.

Moses came close to scoring a quickfire brace with the frontman heading a Sewa Marah cross inches over the crossbar.

Having put in a disappointing first half performance Aveley looked to halve the deficit shortly after the interval, but Freeman was thwarted by Turipa.

Shomari Barnwell thought he had got his name on the scoresheet when he neatly turned and slotted home a Joshua Wiggins cross, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Aveley appealed for a penalty when Freeman went down late on, but the referee waved away the protests.

Freeman got a goal back for Aveley with three minutes still to play and they were back on level terms just 60 seconds later as Milner’s low drive found the back of the net via the post.

Stephen Butterworth, the Wakering player-coach who came on as a late substitute, was shown two late yellow cards as the visitors ended the clash with 10 men.

But Wakering were able to leave with a share of the spoils.
