BASILDON United claimed their first win in more than three months as they saw off Brentwood Town.

First half goals from Jeffrey Cobblah and Matheus Santos resulted in Tony Stokes’ effort not being enough for Brentwood, with the Bees sealing a 2-1 triumph at the Ho Ho Stadium.

And boss Neil Blackburn was pleased to grab his first victory after losing his first four Isthmian North matches in charge.

Blackburn said: “I’m over the moon and all of the hard work has come good.

“We played really well in the first half, winning all of the personal battles and we were clinical in front of goal.

“The early goals settled the boys down and although we were a little bit lucky with the first goal coming from a poor clearance from them, you need that luck sometimes because there are a lot of times in football where it doesn’t go your way.

“The win is for the fans because they have been through a lot in the last few months.”

Cobblah pounced on a defensive error to break the deadlock inside nine minutes, while Santos doubled the Bees’ lead soon after.

Tony Stokes halved the deficit in the second half, but Brentwood’s hopes of staging a comeback were ended with Jed Smith’s late dismissal.
