TIMOTHEE Dieng insists Southend United will be heading to Rochdale with ‘added belief’ this weekend.

The French midfielder scored what proved to be the winning goal in Monday’s 3-2 victory against Burton Albion which saw the Shrimpers end their 15 match winless streak.

But Dieng now wants another three points against Rochdale as Blues bid to beat the drop.

“It was such a big win against Burton and it will definitely make a difference going into the Rochdale game now,” said Dieng.

“We had missed that feeling and we had been waiting a long time to win.

“We had conceded some late goals and had been so unlucky in games like Blackpool and Walsall.

“But to get that win against Burton was great.

“It’s moved us out of the relegation zone and it will definitely give us more belief and confidence.”

Dieng came off the bench to replace Dru Yearwood midway through the second half on Monday and headed home the Shrimpers’ third goal of the game.

However, the match-winning moment came just three days after the 27-year-old had been left out of the squad for Blues’ 1-1 draw at Walsall.

“Of course it was disappointing to be left out but that’s football and you have to stay focused,” said Dieng.

“The manager needs everyone to be ready when needed and I got another chance against Burton.

“It was obviously nice for me personally to get the goal but getting the win was what mattered the most.”

And, as a result, Dieng was relieved to hear the final whistle.

“We all know we have conceded a lot of late goals so it was a great moment when the whistle went,” said Dieng.

“We did everything right late on this time and did what was needed to get the win.”

The victory moved Blues up to 19th in the standings but Dieng is now desperate to pick up more points at Rochdale.

“This is another massive game,” said Dieng.

“We know we’re taking a lot of fans which is great but we have to go there and make sure we build on the win against Burton.”
